On the Developmental Status of Preschool Children in Korea


Abstract
This study was conducted to find out the developmental status of preschool children in the aspect of 4 functions : personal-social, language, fine motor-adaptive, gross.
motor, by Denver Developmental Screening Test(DDST). 431 children of 6 institutions for children in Tae-Jon city, Chung-Nam Province, Korea., had been studied during-
the period, from September 20 to October 20,1976. Results of this study would be summarized as follows:
1. In the aspect of sex, no statatistically significant difference in the development was observed according to sex, though male seemed to show slightly higher trend.
2. High development was observed with the children whose father has higher education.
3. No significant difference with the development of preschool children was observed according to educational level of mother.
4. Significant difference with the development of preschool children was observed according to father¢¥s occupation. Development marked high in merchant, salary man, official, others, soldier, driver, and teacher in that order.
5. No significant difference in the development was observed according to mother¢¥s occupation, though the children whose mother has occupation seemed to show slightly higher trend.
6. Significant relationship was observed between birth order and the development of preschool children.
7. Birth order didn¢¥t seem to affect the social development of preschool children. 8. The number of children didn¢¥t seem to affect the development of preschool children.
9. The number of children didn¢¥t seem to affect the language development of preschool children.
